Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga with it’s roots in Ashtanga. The term “Vinyasa” refers to a series of postures, often timed with the breath. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.”
The beauty of a Vinyasa class is that there is no rulebook and no sequence that is set in stone. Movements are done, in succession, so that the student moves and flows from one posture to the next.
When the word “vinyasa” is used as a noun, for example, when an instructor says, “move through your vinyasa” it refers to 3 postures that are done as part of a sun salutation series: Plank, Chaturanga (low plank), and Upward Facing Dog, and usually followed by Downward Facing Dog. If these terms sound completely foreign to you, don’t worry! That is what our classes and instructors are for!
In each of the Vinyasa classes at The Bombay Room, each movement and posture is easily shown and explained.
Vinyasa yoga (or Vinyasa Flow) is appropriate and accessible for all ability levels, from beginner to advanced student.
